FORT WORTH – Medical City Alliance medical staff and colleagues, HCA Healthcare colleagues, members of the construction team and community leaders gathered for a groundbreaking on May 17, the first step in the construction of a new mental health and wellness hospital to serve North Fort Worth and the rapidly expanding Alliance corridor.
The $50 million Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Alliance is part of a partnership with parent company HCA Healthcare to expand vitally needed mental health services across the nation and in North Texas. The groundbreaking was planned for May Mental Health Awareness Month to bring further attention to growing needs.
The 65,000-square-foot facility will be located on the Medical City Alliance campus, at the northeast corner of I-35W and North Tarrant Parkway. Construction is anticipated to start in early June.
“Many patients suffering with mental health conditions often seek treatment first in the emergency room,” says Glenn Wallace, CEO of Medical City Alliance. “When Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Alliance opens in 2024, our community, one which is currently underserved in the area of mental health services, will have access to high-quality mental health resources close to home.”
Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Alliance will feature:
- 88 beds: Adolescents (24 beds) Adults (48 beds) and Senior Adults/Geriatrics (16 beds)
- Outdoor healing garden
- Courtyard space for physical activity such as yoga, games
- Design elements focused on natural lighting and open floor plan in common areas
The project will provide a full continuum of specialized services, including inpatient and outpatient treatment for a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders. A dedicated team of doctors, nurses and therapists will provide comprehensive services in a beautiful, healing environment with leading-edge therapy and equipment. Outpatient services will include partial hospital programs, intensive outpatient programs and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
“We recognize the need for mental health services in this community and the lack of resources available to meet the demand,” says Brandy Hart, HCA Healthcare regional vice president for behavioral health services. “As a result, this facility was intentionally planned to provide a variety of care options as part of our commitment to the care and improvement of human life.”
This will be the third mental health and wellness facility within the Medical City Healthcare system of care which includes Medical City Green Oaks in Dallas and Medical City Behavioral Health at Medical City McKinney.
Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Alliance is part of a major capital investment initiative of more than $1.5 billion spent or committed over five years across Medical City Healthcare. Investments include expansion and improvements to existing hospitals, new services such as trauma, oncology and behavioral healthcare, upgraded technology and the purchase and construction of new facilities.
